For those who want to be baptized in the Catholic Church or who have already been baptized in another Christian tradition and who want to become Catholic, or those who have been baptized Catholic but have not had First Communion or Confirmation. We introduce stories, rituals, and symbols of the Catholic community which invite those preparing for baptism or reception into the church to enter deeper into their faith journey. The community celebrates baptism/reception at Easter. Also a great update for interested spouses and lifelong Catholics. Mondays, 7:00-8:30 p.m., beginning each September and continuing through Easter to Pentecost.

About The Church

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church

The beginnings of the Church in this area of coastal Georgia date back some four hundred years, long before Oglethorpe established himself at Frederica. From 1566-1742 Spanish missionaries labored, suffered, and were martyred in this locality for the cause of the faith. In 1791 the island of Jekyll was purchased by the du Bignon family. From time to time the head of this family arranged to have a visiting priest celebrate Mass for his family and his slaves.
